Testing of this filter system was performed by QFT, a lab now operating as IAPMO New Jersey, a division of IAPMO, an independent ISO 17025 certified laboratory that is capable of testing following NSF/ANSI protocols. All testing occurred under controlled laboratory conditions. Sample contaminants were prepared, measured and run through the filter. The filter results presented are the maximum removal percentage. Not all contaminants that were tested had established NSF/ANSI protocols at the time testing was performed. Actual performance may vary based on local water conditions. Not all contaminants may be present in users drinking water. System is designed for use with municipally treated tap water. Filter is not designed for use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality. Individuals with unknown water quality should follow the advice of local health authorities with regards to water treatment.
Chemical Disinfectants
Chemical disinfectants are used to reduce the risk of water-borne diseases. The disinfection process can form disinfection by-products (DBP) that have been linked to cancer, reproductive issues, and damage to the liver, kidneys, and central nervous systems.
Fluoride
Fluoride is a chemical compound added to 75% of tap water supplies in the U.S. on the pretext of promoting dental health. However, fluoride has been shown to do more damage to general health compared to its proclaimed benefits for dental health. In fact, water fluoridation may actually have no impact on dental health at all.
Heavy Metals
Heavy metals are metallic elements with a high density. Metal contamination in drinking water has been linked to cancer, anemia, and kidney damage. Even trace amounts of heavy metals can be dangerous for your health.
Herbicides
Herbicides are chemicals used to control unwanted weeds. These chemicals can enter waterways through agricultural runoff and lead to cancer and damage to our nervous systems.
Perfluorinated Chemicals (PFAS)
Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) make up a group of man-made chemicals that do not break down in the environment. These chemicals are used in hundreds of consumer products because of their non-stick properties, including Teflon®, food packaging, clothing, carpet, furniture fabric, and firefighting foam.
Pesticides
Pesticides are any chemical substance designed to control pests. These include disinfectants and antimicrobials to control germs, herbicides to kill weeds, and insecticides to kill insects. There are more than 1,000 pesticides used worldwide to protect food crops.
Pharmaceutical Drugs
Pharmaceuticals are chemical compounds that are used in prescription medicines, veterinary medicines, and over-the-counter drugs. Standard wastewater treatments tend to be ineffective at removing pharmaceutical contamination.
Phthalates
Phthalates are chemicals added to plastics, paints, and medical supplies to increase flexibility and improve durability. These endocrine disruptors can leach into your water and result in damage to the liver, kidneys, lungs, and reproductive system.
Radiological Elements
Radiation is the emission of energy that can affect the molecular structure of organisms. Radiation is released by a group of naturally occurring elements, including uranium, radium, strontium, plutonium, cesium, and thorium. More than 12 different radioactive elements have been found in U.S. tap water, but they can’t be seen, smelled, or tasted.
Semi-Volatile Compounds
Semi-volatile organic compounds (SVOC) are a subgroup of volatile organic compounds (VOC). Unlike most VOCs, SVOCs are odorless and harder to detect. Some examples of products that include SVOCs are many pesticides, oil-based products, and fire retardants. Most SVOCs can lead to cancer, reproductive disorders, nervous system damage, and immune system disruption.
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
Volatile organic compounds (VOC) are organic chemicals released by a broad range of industrial, agricultural, and household products, including paint thinners, solvents, fertilizers, and gasoline that are quick to convert to a gas or vapor form. Long-term exposure to VOCs may lead to cancer or damage to the liver, kidney and central nervous system.
